As of 2022, there were 68 volcanoes on Sumatra Island, Indonesia. Lies in so-called the Pacific Ring of Fire, Indonesia has the largest number of historically active volcanoes, including Mount Anak Krakatau, with the most recent eruption happening in May as of 2023. Overall, more than four million Indonesians reside in volcanic eruption risk locations.
